Silhouette Cards

Be sure you are subscribed to my weekly newsletter – color changes and new catalog info is coming next week!

One of my favorite card layouts when using a scenery background is to use dies or punches with black cardstock to make silhouettes. The Enjoy the Journey Designer Series paper by Stampin’ Up! with it’s beautiful mountain sketches was perfect for this series of cards. And the Greatest Journey and Lighting the Way bundles had the perfect dies to make silhouettes.

This was one of our cards from my March Card Class. We simply stamped the sentiment right on the DSP and added the Lighting The Way die cuts. The large firefly has 3 separate pieces so you can make the light from Daffodil Delight and the wings from Vellum Cardstock. Don’t forget that Stampin’ Up! has Black Dimensionals to pop them up from your card!

There are also 3 little firefly dies in the bundle. I’m glad I remembered to use the black Dimensionals for these little guys. It’s quick to make a whole bunch of these easy cards.

These die cuts are all from the Greatest Journey stamp set, including a jagged die for the black mountain in the second card. I tore some of the paper in 2 layers for the top card. For the second card, I cut off the lantern and added the walking stick.

After cutting the 12×12 DSP in 4 inch strips and then two 5-1/4 pieces to cover the card bases, I had these pieces left over that fit perfectly in a trio on a card front.

TIP: Another way to make a silhouette card is to stamp a bold image with black ink. Or you can also stamp an outline image and fill it in with black marker.

I hope you will agree that silhouette cards are fun and easy. Give it a try with your supplies or click below to check out the ones I used.

Happy crafting,

Kim Wilson
