String Art Tutorial

I tried this string art technique a couple months back, Stampin’ Up style, and forgot to blog it.  This is a really messy but fun technique.

Stampin Up, string art

  1. Cut a piece of Baker’s Twine and dip it in 1 or more colors of ink in sections.  Try not to get the twine too saturated.   Now that I’m thinking about it, I wonder if you could just drag your twine over an inkpad, holding it down with a bone folder.  That might be less messy – it would work if it gives you enough ink.

2. Lay a piece of Whisper White Cardstock on top of an old phone or other book.  Lay down the string with one or 2 loops.  If you want to do two at once, lay down another piece of cardstock on top.  Close the book, hold tightly and pull the string out quickly.  It may even make a kid pleasing noise!

You can use the same string to make a second and third rendering. Here are a few of my attempts. I think it looks better with less ink – what do you think?

3. Stamp a sentiment on your dried panel.  Mount to a card base.  You can even use the twine on your project – just be sure it is dry first (unlike my sample)!

Here is the link to Stampin Up inkpads and ink refills.  Don’t forget to add some twine   .  If your order is over $50 in August, you’ll get a gift from me and a $5 coupon from Stampin’ Up good in September.

Happy crafting,
